What are your goals for this new year?
Perhaps you have asked—or been asked—that question during this first week of 2016.
This is that time of year when many people resolve to lose weight, get in shape, get organized and change their financial condition. While all of those are appropriate ideals to which to aspire, many lose their determination to reach such goals long before the last speck of glitter falls from the most persistent Christmas decoration. Sometimes, in fact, it seems that such efforts merely serve to reinforce the teaching of Jesus that “without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
As Christians, it is certainly good that we use this time of the year to take stock of our lives—perhaps even to make some types of resolutions with God’s help. For many of us, the first one that we think of is developing a plan to read the Bible more in the year ahead or to grow spiritually. We may also include some of the goals expressed above, though hopefully they will be attempted for purposes greater than simple earthly gain (cf. Matt. 16:26). The utilization of God’s wisdom and resources is critical for our success and sets the Christian’s endeavors apart from those who make such attempts purely in their own strength.
The classic passage of Scripture which guides us as we embrace the challenges offered by the future is Philippians 3:12-14:
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Here the Apostle Paul instructs us as to our determination, our motives, our single-mindedness, our aim, our purpose and our destination as we strive to accomplish all that is possible for the glory of the Lord in our Christian race.
Dispensational Publishing House also has many goals for this new year—our first full year of operation. We hope to produce our first books and booklets in the coming months, along with other materials. Since you are reading this, we trust that you are already benefiting from the quality of the blogs that we publish on a regular basis from both new authors as well as recognized, trusted favorites. We look forward to adding more of each to our roster of writers throughout the coming months. And we hope that you are enjoying the attractive artwork that we now offer courtesy of the creativity of graphic designer Leonardo Costa.
We are so glad to have you enter into this new year along with us. As always, please let us know how we may serve you best. Your input and ideas are welcome any time.
To the glory of the Lord, we hope to follow Paul’s instruction and “press toward the goal for the prize” in 2016.
Thank you for running alongside of us!
